To me its not strictly forbidden, nor its halal, and  I have no right to label something haram or halal which Allah did not do so. Yet we find hadith follower quickly say it is totally Haram which they  base their belief on their so-called hadith. however I have no problem to it, since it is their sectrain belief, and they are only accountable to their lord [Allah].

NO its not either, simply because Allah indicated that it may have little benefit but it could lead to a greater destruction, therefore the believer should keep away form it.

Before I express my understanding, I like other to read all verses which I mention, in order to grasp my conclusion, moreover please note that  the translation I used may not be 100% accurate,  in-fact to me NO translation are 100% accurate it is simply the understanding of the translator.

The Quran 2;219

They ask you [Prophet] about intoxicants and gambling: say, ‘There is great sin in both, and some benefit for people: the sin is greater than the benefit.’ They ask you what they should give: say, ‘Give what you can spare.’ In this way, God makes His messages clear to you, so that you may reflect

The Quran 5:90

O you who have believed, indeed, intoxicants, gambling, [sacrificing on] stone alters [to other than Allah], and divining arrows are but defilement from the work of Satan, so avoid it that you may be successful.

The Quran 4:43

O you who have believed, do not approach prayer while you are intoxicated until you know what you are saying or in a state of janabah, except those passing through [a place of prayer], until you have washed [your whole body]. And if you are ill or on a journey or one of you comes from the place of relieving himself or you have contacted women and find no water, then seek clean earth and wipe over your faces and your hands [with it]. Indeed, Allah is ever Pardoning and Forgiving.

The Quran 16:67

And from the fruits of the palm trees and grapevines you take intoxicant / wine  and good provision. Indeed in that is a sign for a people who reason.

The Quran 47:15

Is the example of Paradise; that the righteous have been promised with rivers of pure water, and rivers of milk whose taste does not change, and rivers of wine that are delicious for the drinkers, and rivers of strained honey, and for them in it are all kinds of fruits, and a forgiveness from their Lord; like that of those who abide in the Fire, and are given to drink boiling water that cuts-up their intestines

The Quran 5:91

Satan only wants to cause between you animosity and hatred through intoxicants and gambling and to avert you from the remembrance of Allah and from prayer. So will you not desist?

The Quran 5:3

Forbidden to you is that which is already dead, and the blood, and the meat of pig, and what was sacrificed to other than God, and that which has been strangled, and that which has been beaten to death, and that which has fallen from a height, and that which has been gored, and that which the wild animals have eaten from except what you managed to rescue, and what has been slaughtered on alters, and what you divide by the arrows of chance. This is all vile. Today the rejecters have given up from your system, so do not fear them, but fear Me. Today I have perfected your system for you, and completed My blessings upon you, and I have accepted surrender as the system for you. So, whoever is forced by severe hunger and not seeking sin, then God is Forgiving, Merciful.

The Quran 7:50

And the companions of the Fire will call to the companions of Paradise, "Pour upon us some water or from whatever Allah has provided you." They will say, "Indeed, Allah has forbidden them both to the disbelievers."

2:219  The first word of the verse [Yasalunaka = They ask you] indicate the believer on that time was confused and unclear regarding it, so they question this to the prophet Also on the reply Allah use term [fîhimâ= in both] great sin and some benefit, which lead me two question

Why Allah did not directly mention it is sinful act or it is haram act ?

If it is strictly haram, then how is it possible to have some benefit within ?

I don’t find any reasonable answer to them above question, so the other conclusion may be, since Allah used the word FI=IN, therefore that itself is not haram but it will lead to haram or sinful act for example if I play game with my children and that game made me forgetting to observe the obligatory player then playing with child is not haram since it lead to sin therefore it is indirectly haram.

5:90 It contain the term “ min amali shaytan= from work of devil “ also it contain the word  Fa-ij'tanibuhu “ so avoid it , Now this also lead to some question

Is the verse saying to avoid them act or saying to avoid the devil itself ?

If it is taking about them both act then why does it only used [singular HU ] instead of plural ?

And because of them above question I think this  verse is talking about SATAN itself instead of them all actions

4:43 Mention [lataqrabu =don’t go near ] salah until sober from intoxication. Now this also indicate some question

Since Allah telling not go near while drunk so is it ok to be drunk ?

Doesn’t it also indicate that believers of that time use to drink ?

The hadith follower try to say that, alcohol was first allowed then forbidden later, I love to see they can prove their case directly from Quran, they also forget by saying such lies its lead to another problem such as Allah change his LAW, yet Allah indicate HE do not change HIS system / Sunnah. And remember changes and modification is only needed when someone don’t know the future, yet Allah don’t have this future issue so why does Allah need to change or modified.

16:67 it talk about  [sukârâ =wine / intoxication ] yet also it indicate the word [Hasanan = good] now  this also impose more question [please note term "sukara" could indicate to several other things not just alcohol or wine]

Is that sukara can be understood as alcohol or not ?

If it is then can anything Haram =strictly forbidden can have good into it ?

If it is, then is Allah giving contradictory  message ?

Simply NO and may because of that Allah did not used the term HARAM regarding intoxication / gambling but indicate it is work of davil which lead to destruction. And since Allah mention it has little benefit, which also indicate that because of some benefit mankind may fall in the trap of Satan unless they are sincere believer.

47:15 Indicate it has river of [khamrin = wine] which also generate more question such as

Why this strictly haram thing become one of the a joys material of the paradise ?

Why can we not find any other haram such as [swine / dead meat / blood ] are also among the amusement of the paradise while it is forbidden in this world ?

Yet I haven’t find anything in the Quran which us haram in this life but allowed in hereafter. Therefore this also support that KHAMR is not strictly forbidden but it lead to bad things so it best to avoid.

5:91 Support the context and indicate the verse 5:90 is talking about he Satan and when it mention the term HU

5:3 Mention the word [hurrimat = made Forbiden] yet no mention of [al-khamr]  in-fact there is over 72 verse which contain the word Haram yet none of them Alcohol / intoxication is there no reason behind it ?

7:50 I can see the word [harramahuma ] used as  dual yet Allah didn’t used same format on the verse 5:90 to indicate to both things

The Sunni /Shia  do say it’s Haram for them,  yet I find so many of their follower drink and gamble either openly and secretly. Also most of their government issue licence for it too. So is this not kind of hypocrisy?

Anyway since I don’t find any clear verse which says intoxication and gambling is strictly haram, yet in relation to alcohol I find clear verse which set injunction, not to go near As-Salah until sober.

Moreover it must be noted that alcohol is to treated with `caution` as it may lead to sin and it is one of the preferred tools used by the devil to attract people. We find so many family has been destroyed because of alcohol / gambling. Also when someone lost everything in gambling then his only friends is alcohol which keep him happy or make him stop worrying about his lost. And too many crime [such as Rape / illegal sex] are mostly related to alcohol. Therefore to me it is very bad, and Al-Hamudulilah I never drink nor I gamble, I sincere believe it could destroy health / wealth of any person if they not careful about it. Yet I still can not say it is HAARAM directly by Al-Quran since it is not mention and  there must be reason for it [ Allah knows best]
