[Earthquake / Natural Disaster]
Everything happen according to Allah’s plan, and Allah don’t just send natural disaster to destroy His creation randomly. But also it is wise to remember, whatever happening to us are mostly created by our self more or less.
We do find some verses in AQ indicate Allah have taken direct action toward some sinner [nation]. But we must understand them verses are time bond / situational. And all of them verses indicate it’s happen in the presence of prophets /messengers, when people collectively ignore Allah’s messengers or openly created obstruction for them only then such action has been applied by Allah since HE has full power over everything. Also some verses are purely related to the HOUR [judgments day].
Moreover I believe if any no brain /lunatic goes beyond their limit and start abusing Allah or HIS message then surly Allah will destroy /punish such individual even today. But that does not mean innocent people be punished because of that lunatic.
Also I do not believe like sectarian scholars who says [base on their hadith] all disasters such as earthquake happening around the globe is because the sin of mankind. And they find this as opportunity to frightened people so that they can brainwash them into their beliefs. They even say they have to establish their homemade Sharia Law [their version of Islam] in order to minimise such disasters.
However all true believers will learn from such event and surly it will increase their faith that Allah has overall power over everything, And if any extremist [enemy of Allah] declare war against Allah or against His creations then they will be defeated or destroyed beyond their comprehension.
It is also very important to understand that all verses mention in AQ regarding earthquake is clearly either related to the time of the hour [Judgement Day] or related to transgressor of the time of prophets / messengers. Therefore it is absurd to relate it to present day earthquake by saying its happening because of Shrik / disbelieving Allah.
Also since we do not have a prophets among us, then how can we be responsible collectively for denying /obstructing the message /prophets of Allah. Anyway those sectarian don’t read them verses correctly neither they try to interpret accurately. They just cherry pick whatever verse that fits their agenda / objective
[please note translation may have error, since its just understanding of the translator]

Like the behaviour of the people of Fir'aun (Pharaoh) and those before them; they belied Our Ayat. So Allah seized them for their sins. And Allah is Severe in punishment.

And let not the disbelievers think that Our postponing of their punishment is good for them. We postpone the punishment only so that they may increase in sinfulness. And for them is a disgracing torment.

Say: "Do you see if Allah's retribution comes to you suddenly, or gradually, will anyone be destroyed except the wicked people"
And We do not send the messengers except as bearers of good news and warners; whoever believes, and does good, then there is no fear for them nor will they grieve.
And those who deny Our revelations, the retribution will inflict them for their vileness

So the earthquake seized them, and they lay (dead), prostrate in their homes.

And when the punishment fell on them they said: "O Musa (Moses)! Invoke your Lord for us because of His Promise to you. If you remove the punishment from us, we indeed shall believe in you, and we shall let the Children of Israel go with you."
But when We removed the punishment from them to a fixed term, which
they had to reach, behold! they broke their word!
The Quran 7:155
And Musa (Moses) chose out of his people seventy (of the best) men for Our appointed time and place of meeting, and when they were seized with a violent earthquake, he said: "O my Lord, if it had been Your Will, You could have destroyed them and me before; would You destroy us for the deeds of the foolish ones among us? It is only Your Trial by which You lead astray whom You will, and keep guided whom You will. You are our Wali (Protector), so forgive us and have Mercy on us: for You are the Best of those who forgive.
The Quran 8:52
Similar to the behaviour of the people of Fir'aun (Pharaoh), and of those before them - they rejected the Ayat of Allah, so Allah punished them for their sins. Verily, Allah is All-Strong, Severe in punishment.
The Quran 13:32
And indeed (many) Messengers were mocked at before you, but I granted respite to those who disbelieved, and finally I punished them. Then how (terrible) was My punishment

The Quran 22:01

The Quran 10:48
And many a town I have given it respite while it was doing wrong, then I seized it! And to Me is the destiny.
The Quran 29:37
And they belied him [Shu'aib]: so the earthquake seized them, and they lay (dead), prostrate in their dwellings.
The Quran 98:01
When the earth is shaken with its (final) earthquake.
The Quran 40:21
Have they not travelled through the earth and seen how was the fate of those who used to be before them? They were stronger than these in power and in traces left on the earth, but Allah seized them because of their sins. There was no one to save them from Allah.
Some above verses indicate Allah did punished some culprit when they exceed their limit, it also indicate Allah respite some till their game is over and return to Allah. The verse 4:79 can apply on everyone even though that verse is directed to prophets since he was also a human. Therefore whatever misfortune befalls on us are result of our own action.
Can we really create earthquake or other disaster such as cyclone / hurricane?
Answer to such question is tricky we cannot say positively we are not responsible of it at all, especially when we are continuously
1 Drilling on earth either for oil / gas or water
2 Testing so many nuclear warheads either on land / sea
3 Reducing / taking out some mountain wherever needed
4 Digging coal mines all over the globe for centuries
5 Building so many high-rise skyscrapers.
6 Defusing /damping military toxic under the surface of earth.
Therefore action of some greedy individual / nation could make some impact or suffering to the innocent people anywhere in the globe. That’s is because the whole world is one body. Therefore if anyone damage its neutrality on any particular place, yet the effects or reaction could be seen either directly on same place [country] or indirectly on other places [countries].
Anyway so many things man can do to trigger earthquake or other similar disaster. Yet no one likes to take the blame of it, therefore it is easy to accuse / blame Allah for everything [awozubillah].
I believe nothing happen in the whole universe without master plan of Allah. And everything happen with us is because of our own action either directly or indirectly, and we do so many things without knowing its possible effects / reaction, therefore so many possibilities that we may instigate earthquake on some extent due to our abusive behaviour toward earth especially when it on its very old age.
But surly it is NOT because of our SIN particularly when we don’t have prophets within us. And it is NOT logical for any innocent should suffer because of others people sin.
Moreover sometime some suffering of the innocent is unavoidable, particularly when some greedy people causing problem by waging war against weaker nation or creating [manmade earthquake] or other natural disasters.
However Allah has given us sense & brain, therefore we should try to avoid all dangerous situation whenever possible. And if it totally unavoidable then we should not forget this word is temporary, we all are just travellers, our main destination is Hereafter. Therefore even we caught up in such tragedy, surly Allah is most merciful HE will either save us or give us more reward on hereafter for such tragedy. [Allah knows best]
